Shannon recognized she was losing her hearing at age 30. Since then, every day there's a new awkward situation. For the hearing people reading this, imagine not hearing a blow dryer next to your head. If you say "pardon me" using your inside voice, she's not going to hear it. She doesn't hear "s's" either. Combined with tinnitus and Meniere's Disease, every day is a long dizzy day of piecing together quiet-talkers, mumblers and filling in the "s's". In 2019 Shannon joined the Board of Directors for the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) West Valley Arizona Chapter . In 2022 Shannon joined the Global Alliance for Speech to Text Captioning Board of Directors.
In addition to this blog, she and co-author Riley enjoy writing a collection of stories about this crazy invisible thing called hearing loss. Working title: My Golden Hears
